Color Guard FAQ
The primary consideration during the auditions will be an individuals
ability to learn quickly and perform confidently. Prior dance experience in
modern, jazz and ballet is recommended, but not required. In addition, other
considerations such as age, guard experience, size (weight proportionate to
height), coordination and attitude will be closely examined.
Rehearsals will begin in March/April for the summer program. You should plan
to reside in the Concord area by April 1. If this is not possible, further
arrangements can be discussed at the time of your audition.
We are still in the process planning our summer events, tour and performances. When the summer plans become more concrete we will be in contact with you or you can go to our schedule page. If you have any questions, fill free to contact us.

Drum Major
For the 2008 season, The Blue Devils will have one drum major position open. The audition for this position will be held at the January 18, 19 & 20 full corps camp in Concord, California (map). We will conduct auditions on Sunday to allow you to participate in the full camp. There will be no fee to audition or participate in the camp.
If you are interested in auditioning for this position, please purchase the first production of the 2007 show form BD Media Box and download the one page pdf file. At your audition in January, you will be asked to conduct a short excerpt from the 2007 opening production in front of a small group of staff. The name of our 2007 show was "Winged Victory" and the name of the opening production was Pegasus Fantasy. The excerpt you will need to conduct begins right on the first brass entrance of Pegasus Fantasy and the available pdf file download is a guide to the meters you will need to conduct. Following your conducting audition, the staff will ask you a few questions, mainly to learn your previous experience as well as how you would handle certain situations as one of the leaders within the corps.
If you have any questions regarding what is being asked to complete this audition, please email brass caption head John M. Meehan.
