Audition Process
The Blue Devils Open Guard announces auditions for the competitive season! We are looking for energetic, fun members, committed to improving their skill level and their performance abilities. Attendance at rehearsals is mandatory; exceptions are school commitments that have been previously approved by Guard Director Annette Odello. We are looking for people that love to perform. If you have a great attitude and a willingness to learn we need you. You must be in good physical health, look athletic and be at a weight that blends with the other members.
The audition process will consist of three elements:
- Movement Audition
There will be a body warm up with some traveling combinations across the floor. Your physical condition must allow you to move within a reasonable range of motion. A dance combination will be taught. You will perform the dance combination in small groups.
- Equipment Audition
After a short flag warm up, a flag phrase will be taught. You will perform the flag phrase in small groups. Flag audition is mandatory.
For those individuals interested in weapons, there will some limited time spent on saber and rifle. The actual selection of those that will be a weapon will be made at a later date.
- Interviews With Staff
We will have every potential member, returning or new, go through an interview with the staff.
We want to know why you want to be a Blue Devil and if you can fulfill the commitment.
The staff is not concerned with how much of the material you are able to learn quickly. Your attitude about the process is what is most important. Don’t give up, have fun and perform.
Anyone who really can commit to being a dedicated member will have a spot as long as they are physically able and the staff feels that they will work well with the group.
