
Albert Vela III is currently entering his first year as Director of Bands at Magnolia High School in Magnolia, TX. Prior to Magnolia HS, Albert enjoyed 15 years as an Assistant Director at Oak Ridge High School in Conroe, TX where his duties included leading the War Eagle Marching Band, conducting the Symphonic Band, and leading the brass program. Under the direction of Mr. Vela, the Oak Ridge High School Brass Ensemble earned an invitation to perform as a featured ensemble at the 2022 Midwest International Band and Orchestra Clinic in Chicago as well as received an invitation to perform at the Texas State Capitol "Fine Arts Day" in 2023.
An active participant in the Drum and Bugle Corps activity, Albert is currently on the brass staff of the 21-time DCI World Champion and 25-time Jim Ott High Brass Award Blue Devils. He has previously been on brass staff with Guardians (Caption Head), Oregon Crusaders, and Revolution Drum and Bugle Corps. He was also a marching member and vocal soloist with The Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps.
Away from the classroom, Albert is the Curriculum and Media Specialist with the TonalEnergy Team. His music education experiences have been crucial to TonalEnergy being utilized as a top tool by musicians of all ages around the world.
Additionally, Albert is an active speaker, clinician, and adjudicator for schools, state conferences, and performing groups across the United States, Canada, and South America.
Albert holds a Master of Arts in Band Studies from Sam Houston State University and holds a BM in Music Education from The University of Houston.
His professional affiliations include Phi Beta Mu International Bandmasters Fraternity - Alpha Chapter, Texas Music Educators Association, Texas Bandmasters Association, and the Texas Music Adjudicators Association.
Outside of teaching, Albert and his wonderful wife Audra enjoy exploring the many foodie and arts opportunities around the City of Houston, and traveling both locally and abroad.
